Precepting Matters Class

Learning to be a preceptor requires integrating new knowledge, attitudes and skills. This class utilizes a variety of adult teaching strategies and active learning experiences to assist in developing the nurse preceptor.

1. Examine preceptor roles and responsibilities.
2. List adult learning styles and principles.
3. Define importance for nursing orientation goal development.
4. Describe workplace socialization and how to integrate new nurses into the work setting.
5. Associate the influence of emotional intelligence and self-awareness with the role of precepting.
6. Explain strategies to evaluate and provide feedback on an orientees competence.
7. Determine the appropriate style of conflict resolution to use in specific situations.

Corewell Health West is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
