2025 Nursing Diversity Education Day

Corewell Health Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council is hosting the 1st annual Nursing Diversity Education Day! This education will be fast-paced and interactive as attendees move from station to station learning about various DEI topics. Station topics range from weight bias, human trafficking, to underserved communities.

1. Define weight bias and how it impacts the disease of obesity.
2. Describe the role of the Child Life Specialist and the assessment tools used to create care plans for diverse populations.
3. Identify myths/bias related to health literacy and steps to empower individuals to take charge of their well-being.
4. Recognize health disparities that exist in underserved communities and how community programs strive to improve health equity and outcomes.
5. Analyze how race is embedded in the healthcare system and tools that are used to promote safe, effective communication.
6. Identify signs of human trafficking and efforts to ensure safety.
7. Explain the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Inpatient screening tool and how it benefits patient outcomes.
8. Discuss racial and socioeconomic disparities that exist in preeclampsia and birth outcomes and preventable strategies to eliminate perinatal morbidity and mortality.

Corewell Health West is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
