Overview

In this 1-hour on demand asynchronous Unconscious (Implicit) Bias webinar (the exact content that is provided for the live 1-hour session we currently offer) on Workday Learning, we discuss what Implicit or Unconscious Bias is, where it shows up in our work, it’s impact to equitable access to health care, and strategies to disrupt or manage our biases. This course meets the internal Corewell Health unconscious bias training requirement and is compliant with the LARA guidelines.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand what unconscious bias is and what it is NOT.
  2. Recognize sources of unconscious bias in ourselves and our system.
  3. Identify unconscious bias’s role in health inequities in medicine and patient care.
  4. Practice strategies to disrupt unconscious bias.
  5. Information on implicit bias, equitable access to health care, serving a diverse population, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and cultural sensitivity.
  6. Strategies to remedy the negative impact of implicit bias by recognizing and understanding how it impacts perception, judgment, and actions that may result in inequitable decision making, failure to effectively communicate, and result in barriers and disparities in the access to and delivery of health care services.
  7. The historical basis and present consequences of implicit biases based on an individual’s characteristics.
  8. Discussion of current research on implicit bias in the access to and delivery of health care services.
  9. Strategies to reduce disparities in access to and delivery of health care services.
