Overview
This self-paced 1-hour CH Unconscious Bias 201 training is a healthcare specific course that explores diversity, equity, inclusion, and sensitivity, the importance of managing microaggressions, and how our unconscious biases influence the way we make decisions and can impact teams, patients, health plan members and our communities we serve. This course will equip team members with the knowledge, skills, and capacity to manage unconscious biases and microaggressions to remove barriers, reduce disparities in health care, foster respect and inclusion, and improve health equity. This course meets both our internal Corewell Health unconscious bias training requirements and is also LARA compliant for licensure. This course combines two self-paced e-learning presented by our Corewell Health DEI Learning & Development team. This course provides learners with the following learning outcomes: • Introduction to diversity, inclusion, and sensitivity in healthcare • Exploring the importance of cultural competency and humility in healthcare • Foundational understanding of unconscious bias in healthcare • Managing Microaggressions in healthcare


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Distinguish between diversity and inclusion
  2. Acquire knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion and sensitivity in healthcare
  3. Recognize when unconscious bias occurs and why it's important to understand.
  4. Gain a foundational understanding of unconscious bias in healthcare
  5. Explain what happens when an individual processes unconscious bias
  6. Explore how unconscious bias is relevant in organizations
  7. Identify strategies to counteract potential unconscious bias
  8. Develop an understanding of microaggressions and how they impact people negatively
  9. Understand strategies for managing microaggressions in healthcare
