Med-Surg Skills Fair for RNs 2025

Non-ICU RNs will arrive on-time and plan to participate until the listed end-time. This skills review is required for all Non-ICU Med-Surg, NGFP, and Resource RNs who were hired prior to December 2, 2024. Skills being reviewed include, fall prevention, pressure injury staging and prevention, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and Heparin drips.

1. Demonstrate fall risk interventions based on fall risk predictive model including how to properly set a bed alarm.
2. Recognize delirium and identify interventions to implement for a delirious patient.
3. Identify risk of pressure injury development and determine appropriate nursing interventions based on Braden Risk Assessment Score.
4. Demonstrate proper staging, measuring, and documenting of pressure injuries.
5. Describe the function of a chest tube atrium and identify common chest tube troubleshooting solutions.
6. Demonstrate proper chest tube assessment and dressing change.
7. Understand the anatomical differences between tracheostomies and laryngectomies and nursing care responsibilities.
8. Demonstrate tracheostomy suctioning and laryngectomy tube care and identify supplies and equipment.
9. Demonstrate appropriate management of a patient on a heparin drip
