A Tobacco Treatment Specialist is a professional who possesses the skills, knowledge, and training to provide effective, evidence-based interventions for tobacco dependence across a range of intensities. The Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence has established a set of competencies for Tobacco Treatment Specialists. The competencies serve as a measure to provide best practices for effective treatment of tobacco use. This training meets the requirements necessary for one to then pursue national certification as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist through AHA or NAADAC..

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the role of counseling in cessation
  2. Identify approved cessation medications and when to recommend what
  3. Identify cognitive and behavioral strategies for treating tobacco and nicotine users
  4. Demonstrate the ability to create a treatment plan for tobaccu using patients
