This program is designed to educate learners in oncology. After this course, Learners will be able to: Describe the different treatment modalities of cancer. Identify appropriate nursing interventions for a patient receiving chemotherapy. Explain the rationale for supportive medications pre and post chemotherapy. Describe the different complications that can occur within the oncology patient population. Describe potential side effects related to chemotherapy therapy. Distinguish different types of central catheter lines. Discuss appropriate central catheter line care. Demonstrate accessing an implanted port.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
This course helps new RN's to become familiar caring for the Adult oncology in-patient population regarding nursing interventions for patients undergoing chemotherapy. It discusses oncologic emergencies, central catheter lines, accessing an implanted port. Discussed is appropriate nursing assessments and interventions. In addition, for those RN's on 5 South Butterworth, it discusses care for Head and Neck Surgery patients. For those RN's on 5 North Butterworth, it discusses care for Gynecological cancer patients as well as Tracheal Stent Placement patients. This course helps new RN's to become familiar caring for the Adult oncology in-patient population regarding nursing interventions for patients undergoing chemotherapy. It discusses oncologic emergencies, central catheter lines, accessing an implanted port. Discussed is appropriate nursing assessments and interventions.   11. Explain the appropriate nursing assessment and interventions for various head and neck surgeries.
